Fluted Staked Cherry Stool
This build was all about practice for me. I wanted to work on the techniques used by a furniture maker that inspires the crap out of me, Ishitani, a Japanese maker that has created some amazing staked pieces. His work reminds me of the reason I started woodworking, to slow the world down.
Fluted? Staked?
Fluted describes the texture created on the seat of the stool, a series of shallow grooves carved with a gouge across the surface to add detail and a bit of grip! Staked furniture is the oldest form of furniture making known and uses a plank with inserted legs for chairs, benches, tables etc.
